Ponder Junior High 7th grade students recently held informational interviews with guest speakers and gained insightful advice about college and future careers. Students had the opportunity to talk with a geologist, a digital marketing analyst, a college student, a college professor, and our very own Coach Wisdom.
The conversations were heartfelt, honest, and meaningful. Students asked thoughtful questions and reflected deeply on what they heard, showing maturity and curiosity about their futures.
Some of the student feedback captured just how impactful these conversations were:
“I heard you say that college will seem hard at first, but you can adapt and find a rhythm. This made me realize that I should not freak out about college.”
“I heard you say that if I am not a morning person, I could personalize my schedule to my liking, and this makes me want to go to college.”
“I heard you say that you were the first person in your family to go to college. This was impactful because only a few people have been to college in my family, and I want to try.”
“When you said that you used to think you weren’t smart enough for college, it was impactful because I overthink college and my future too. Now I know that I can do it.”
“I heard you say that you stay away from harmful substances because they won’t get you anywhere, and that really stuck with me.”
These reflections highlight the powerful influence of sharing real-life experiences and encouragement with our students. PJH students walked away feeling more confident, hopeful, and motivated about what lies ahead.
A huge shout-out goes to Mrs. Allred, Mrs. McCage, Mrs. Deranger, Mrs. Hubbard, Coach Koelzer, Mrs. Boatright, Mr. Ford, Mrs. Estes, Mrs. Gant, Mrs. Berte, Mrs. North, Mrs. Escamilla, Mr. Hooper, Mrs. Bragg, and all who generously gave their time to support our students.
