What does it look like when Ponder 44 moves from words on a page to something our students actually live out? We're already seeing it across Ponder ISD.
One of the first Ponder 44 attributes we're highlighting for our Secondary Lions is:
Remember who you are and who you represent.
It's a simple statement with a pretty big meaning.
Being a Ponder Lion means understanding that the way we carry ourselves matters. Whether our students are in a classroom, competing on a field or court, performing, serving in the community, or simply interacting with others, they represent themselves, their families, their school, and Ponder.
Recently, our Ponder High School Legacies gave us a great example of exactly that.
The Legacies welcomed back a former captain to teach the team a traditional dance. It was an opportunity for today's Legacies to learn from someone who came before them, honor the traditions of the program, and carry a piece of its history forward.
They weren't simply learning a dance. They were remembering who they are, what they represent, and the tradition they now have the responsibility of carrying forward.
That's Ponder 44 in action.
It Starts with the Little Things, Too
Ponder 44 isn't only found in big moments or longstanding traditions. Often, it's the little things happening in our classrooms every day.
At Ponder Elementary, Ms. Blake's second-grade students are practicing what it means to be Outstanding Communicators. During turn-and-talk conversations, students listen to one another and, when the conversation is finished, thank their partner by name.
It's a simple classroom routine, but that's exactly the point.
Respect. Listening. Kindness. Looking someone in the eye. Saying thank you. Remembering that how we treat people matters.
Those small habits build something much bigger.
Catch a Lion in Action
Some of the best Ponder 44 moments happen when no one is expecting them.
Maybe you've noticed something in your classroom. Maybe your child came home and demonstrated something they've been talking about at school. Maybe you saw one of our Lions represent Ponder well at a game, event, restaurant, or somewhere in our community.
