Ponder 44

At Ponder ISD, Ponder 44 is about more than what happens in the classroom or on the field. It’s about how our Lions show up for one another, especially when it matters most.

That spirit was recently recognized in Coach Schulz, who was nominated for demonstrating Integrity in Character and Leading with Purpose through the relationships he builds with his athletes and the way he supports the Ponder community.

In the nomination, Coach Schulz was described as the kind of coach who makes sure his players feel seen, heard and comfortable communicating with him.

“He goes above and beyond for his athletes, whether it’s making sure they have a pregame meal, showing up to important moments in their lives like baptisms, or simply being there when they need him most,” the nomination shared. “He truly is the definition of FAMILY.”

That sense of family has been especially important during some of the most difficult moments faced by Ponder athletes and families. The nomination specifically recognized the way Coach Schulz helped bring people together during Coach Curtsinger’s accident and Caden’s accident, making sure those affected knew they did not have to walk through difficult circumstances alone.

“He showed up, brought people together, and was present when it mattered most.”

Perhaps the most powerful part of the nomination came from the personal impact Coach Schulz has had on the individual who submitted it:

“Without Coach Schulz, I wouldn’t be half the man I am today. He’s a TRUE leader of Ponder athletes, and there is no one else I would want to lead our program.”

That is Ponder 44 in Action — leading with purpose, showing integrity in character and making sure the people around you know they are part of a family.
